Dr. Devon Evans grew up in rural Massachusetts and went to Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He did his Residency at Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston, and his Fellowship at Brown University Medical Center in Rhode Island. He explored other areas of the country through ‘locum tenens’ positions in Martha’s Vineyard, Gresham, OR and Kealakekua, HI before coming to New England Cancer Specialists in 2007.

Dr. Evans is board certified in hematology and oncology, with interests in lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, and brain tumors. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society for NeuroOncology, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He states “I became an oncologist with the hope of providing comfort and strength to those made vulnerable by a challenging disease. I am amazed every day by my patients as they fight to live their lives in spite of their cancer, and refuse to let it define them. Their courage remains my inspiration.”

Dr. Evans lives in Cape Elizabeth with his wife and three daughters. His outside interests center on enjoying the wonderful outdoor attractions of Maine with his family:  skiing in the winter, and running, swimming and boating during the summer.

Dr. Jamie McKenzie grew up in the Catskills in upstate NY and attended Cornell University in Ithaca. She received her MD at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, then relocated to Boston, where she completed her post-graduate training. She practiced in Washington State and Peabody, MA before joining New England Cancer Specialists in 2019.

She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.

Dr. McKenzie lives with her husband and two young children. She and her family enjoy traveling and spending as much time as possible outdoors in the beautiful New England seasons.

Dr. Winters was raised in Oklahoma and graduated from Oklahoma State University. He received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma-College of Medicine. He trained in internal medicine at the University of New Mexico and stayed an additional year as Chief Resident. Afterwards, he completed fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the University of Vermont in Burlington where he and his wife fell in love with the people and landscapes of New England. Following fellowship, he spent a year practicing and pursuing outdoor activities in Bend, Oregon before joining New England Cancer Specialists in late 2015.

He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and oncology with interests in benign hematology, malignant hematology, and melanoma. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology and American Society of Clinical Oncology. 

Dr. Winters lives in Portland with his wife and their 2 young children. His outside interests include downhill and nordic skiing, snowshoeing, backpacking, running, cooking, and reading fiction.

Jess grew up in White River Junction, Vermont. She attended Smith College and University of Vermont, and graduated with a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing. She graduated from Brandeis University with a Master’s of Science in Genetic Counseling. Her thesis topic was “Investigation of Current Telegenetic Practice among Genetic Counselors”. Jess is board certified in both nursing and genetic counseling.

Jess specializes in hereditary cancer syndromes. She has worked as a prenatal, pediatric, and lab based genetic counselor at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, and Genzyme Genetics. She joined New England Cancer Specialist in 2010. She is an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.

Jess lives in South Portland, Maine. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her furry canine and Jane Austen namesake, Mr. Bingley. She enjoys hiking, skiing, snow showing and paddle boarding in the great outdoors and is an avid knitter. She starts most days with a walk along Willard Beach.
